Cloud Cost Optimisation
Most cloud bills contain spend that nobody decided to make.
Cloud cost grows by default. Instances stay oversized because resizing takes an afternoon, storage accumulates because deleting it needs a decision, and development environments run all night because nobody asked who is paying for that. We produce a priced list of changes with the risk attached to each one.
Tools we work in
- AWS
- Azure
- Google Cloud
- Terraform
- Grafana
- Cloudflare
Scope
What this covers
The specific work included when you engage us for this service.
- A line-by-line review of compute, storage, network egress and managed services
- Right-sizing based on measured utilisation rather than on a guess
- Commitment planning where it is safe, with a warning where it locks you in
- Scheduling and lifecycle rules for environments that do not need to run continuously
- Storage tiering, retention rules and cleanup of data nobody owns
- Tagging and budget alerts so the next surprise arrives as a warning
What you receive
- 01A written cost report listing each change, its monthly value and its operational risk
- 02The implemented changes you approve, applied through infrastructure code rather than by hand
- 03A tagging and budget alert setup that keeps the estate attributable
Questions
Cloud Cost Optimisation, answered
What saving can we expect?
We do not quote a percentage before seeing the bill, because the honest range runs from almost nothing to a substantial fraction depending on how the estate grew. The pattern we see most often is not one expensive mistake but dozens of small defaults that were never revisited. The first deliverable is a priced list of changes with the risk attached, and you decide what to action.
Will cost cutting make the system less reliable?
Not if the changes are measured. The dangerous reductions are removing redundancy, shrinking capacity to the exact current peak, or turning off the logging that would explain an incident. We separate changes that are pure waste from changes that trade reliability for money, label them clearly, and leave the second category for an explicit decision rather than sneaking it into a spreadsheet.
Do you take a percentage of the savings?
No. Commission on savings creates the wrong incentive, because the fastest way to earn a fee is to reduce capacity and hope the peak arrives at a convenient time. We charge for the review and the implementation work.
